At the recent DOD/USDA Forging the Partnership conference in Chicago, IL, the opening session keynote was done by Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, Vice President of Outreach and Educational Practices at Sesame Workshop. In addition to reviewing the popular Talk, Listen, Connect initiative for military families she highlighted their new Healthy Habits for Life initiative, which offers simple strategies to help parents and caregivers instill healthy behaviors in children and ensure that they grow into strong adults. The Healthy Habits for Life initiative seeks to build a strong base of healthy habits, while reminding kids and their adult caregivers that living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be a chore -- it can be fun! The Healthy Habits program uses the beloved Sesame characters to teach kids about healthy foods and fun, silly, ways to get exercise. The project provides videos, links, and handouts that parents and teachers can use to teach children about making healthy eating and exercise choices.
