Welcome to the FOCUS Quarterly Volume 23 - In this issue, we will discuss managing stress and stress reactions.

Though experiencing stress from time to time is a normal part of life, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help manage your reactions to stressful situations.

 

Family Activity: Family Crest

On way to manage stressful situations is to set aside time to do something that you enjoy. A fun activity with family members is something FOCUS always recommends. Next time you or a family member has had a stressful day think about scheduling some time for this Family Crest activity. Not only is this activity creative it can also lead to fun conversations about what makes your family unique and strong!

Sometimes our past experiences can affect the way we respond to stressful situations. FOCUS teaches families how to manage stress reactions effectively by taking breaks to calm down and engaging in self-care behaviors.

Check out this guide on managing stress reactions for what to do before, during, and after a particularly stressful event or time. Try placing this guide in a common family area. That way, when a stress reaction occurs, this guide can remind family members of their stress management tools! Make sure to identify which of these strategies work best for you and continue to use them.
